Layerworks (layerworks.net) is operated as a sole trader business based in the United Kingdom. You can contact us at orders@layerworks.net.

Layerworks is a marketplace that connects customers with independent makers who produce 3D printed goods to order. When you buy something on Layerworks, your contract for that item is with the maker, not with us: we are not the seller and we do not manufacture, inspect, or ship the items ourselves.

Our role is to run the marketplace: hosting listings, taking payment on the maker's behalf, holding funds until delivery is confirmed, and providing tools for messaging and dispute resolution between buyers and makers.

You must be at least 18 years old to create an account. You're responsible for keeping your login details secure and for all activity under your account. Tell us straight away at orders@layerworks.net if you think your account has been compromised.

When you check out, payment is taken by Stripe, our payment processor. Layerworks holds the funds for your order. The maker is not paid immediately. Funds are released to the maker after your order is marked delivered and a further short holding period passes without an open dispute (currently 3 days), giving you time to flag a problem before the sale completes.

If you don't confirm delivery yourself, an order is automatically marked delivered 10 days after the maker marks it shipped, and automatically completed (releasing the maker's payout) 3 days after that. You can still report a problem at any point up to that point from your orders page.

Layerworks charges makers a platform fee of 0% of the item subtotal (not shipping) on each sale. This fee is deducted from the maker's payout. It is not an additional charge to you as the buyer.

If you sell on Layerworks, you're responsible for the accuracy of your listings, the quality and safety of what you print and ship, and for owning the rights to any design you sell (or holding a licence that permits commercial prints). See our Intellectual Property Policy. You agree to fulfil orders you accept in a reasonable time and to keep your shipping information up to date.

Because items on Layerworks are made specifically for you after you order, they are generally exempt from the standard 14-day distance-selling cancellation right under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 (this is the same rule that applies to any bespoke or personalised goods, not something specific to Layerworks).

This doesn't affect your other consumer rights. Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, goods must still be as described, of satisfactory quality, and fit for purpose. See our Returns Policy for what to do if an item falls short of that.

If an order arrives damaged, faulty, or materially different from its listing, report it from your orders page. See our Returns Policy for the full process and timeline. We'll review the evidence from both sides and, where appropriate, refund you out of the held funds.

You agree not to use Layerworks to list or request anything illegal, infringing, or unsafe; to circumvent the platform's payment or fee system; to harass another user; or to attempt to access another account or interfere with the service.

Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that can't lawfully be limited. Beyond that, Layerworks provides the marketplace on an "as is" basis and, to the extent permitted by law, isn't liable for losses caused by a maker's product or conduct. Your remedy for a problem with an order is the dispute process above, and Layerworks' own liability as the platform operator is limited to the fees we've actually received on the order in question.

We may suspend or close an account that breaches these terms, including for confirmed intellectual-property infringement or abuse of other users. Where reasonably possible we'll tell you why.

We may update these terms from time to time; the version in force is always the one published here, dated at the top of this page.

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them. This doesn't remove any protection you have under the mandatory consumer-protection law of the country you live in.
